Packet Classification
Most line mod ules support pa cket classification on ingress; some non-ASIC line
module
s do n ot. A classification engine on the line module matches specific
fields (such as source and destination IP a dd ress, source and destination p ort,
and protocol), the ingress IP interface, layer 2 fields, or som e combination
of the
se against user-configured filters at wire speed.
I/O Modules
Most line modules have a corresponding input/output (I/O) module that provides
the ph
ysical interconnection to the ne twork. Insert each I/O module into the
back of the system, directly behin d its corresponding line module.
