and t hat all local fire, safety, and electrical codes and ordinances be observed
when you are in
stalling and operating your equipment.
F ire Suppression
In the event of an electrical hazard or an electrical fire, first unplug
the power cord
. (For s hu tdown instructions, see “Powering a S ervices
Router On and Off” on pa ge 90.)
Then, use a Type C fire extinguisher, which uses noncorrosive fire retardants,
to extinguish the fire. For more information about fire extinguishers,
see “Fire Sup
pression Equipment” on page 74.
F ire Suppression Equipment
Type C fire extinguishe rs, which use noncorrosive fire retardants su c h as carbon
dioxide (CO
2
) and Halo tron, are most effective for suppressing electrical fires.
Type C fire extinguishers d isp lace the oxygen from the point of combustion to
eliminate the fire. For extinguishing fire on o r around equipment that draws air
from the env
ironment for cooling, use this type of in ert oxygen displace ment
extinguisher instead of an extinguisher that leave residues on equipment.
Do not use multipurpose Type ABC chemical fire extinguishers (dry chemical
fire extinguishers) near Juniper Networks equipment. The primary ingredient in
these fire
extinguishers is monoammonium phosphate, which is very sticky and
difficult to clean. I n addition, in minute amounts of moisture, m on oa mmonium
phosphate can become highly corrosive and corrodes most metals.
NOTE: To ke
ep warranties effective, do not use a dry chemical fire extinguisher to
control a fire at or near a Juniper Networks router. If a dry chemica l fire extinguisher
is used, the unit is n o longer eligib le for covera ge u nde r a service agreement.
Any equipment in a room in which a chemical fire extinguisher has been
discharged is sub ject to premature failure and unreliable operation. The
equipment
is considered to be irreparably dama ged.
We recomme
nd that you dispose of any irreparably damaged equipment
in an environmentally responsible manner.
